Gruntled about Politics?

I know what you are thinking? Yet another partisan blog about Politics? Well, I don't doubt that I am partisan, but more partisan about the stupidity in politics, than Right or Left partisan.

What I hope to do is add some substance to political debate, not the distracting who said something stupid or reading racial overtones into something that was never said.

So as a local talk show hosts says: "Tell me where you sit, before you tell me where you stand" so I'll do that.

When I take most political quizzes, I come up libertarian. Small "l" not Capital "L". Although the Libertarian party is probably more like libertarian philosophy than Democrats support a Democratic philosophy or Republicans support a Republican philosophy (whatever that even is!).

I don't believe in politicians, not any politicians. No matter how well-intentioned a politician is when he first decides to be a politician, upon being elected to whatever level he starts out at, the power, lobbyists and the desire to move up almost always overtakes him and he forgets why he is there in the first place.

I have also been a lobbyist. On a volunteer basis and for an organization that I was involved in as a board member and eventually as a local president. I supported a couple of bills in Washington, I asked for funding on a state level, and got it. I have seen firsthand on how what you think you are asking for isn't what you are actually getting.

I have since come to the conclusion that the government shouldn't fund "good causes" just because it's a good cause. There are plenty of good causes and it's up to the people to decide what should or should not be funded from their own pocketbooks. I also believe that the government is there to protect us from enemies of our country and not to protect us from ourselves.

The government at all levels has encroached on things that they should not be involved in, and it's ultimately up to us as citizens to change that. I doubt that we will as a whole do just that, because we like to be given things, that we don't think is costing us anything.

That's where I sit. Here is where I stand. I believe in Term limits, limited government and people helping out other people, not the government helping out other people. I think both parties have less interest in their constituents than they do in prolonging their own civic careers.

But most of all, I believe our country is still the greatest country in the world, and it's people will eventually wake up and realize they need to do something to make it better.
